Qualifying for the Nostalgia Super Stock cars ended late this evening with John Grinwald’s 9.56, 141.34 on top followed by the only other single digit elapsed that being a 9.82, 125.45 from Terry Croy’s Pontiac. A 10.12 by Larry Quinn’s “Blast From the Past” Pontiac netted him third followed by Joe Zajac’s 10.14 in the “Rompin’ Redskin” Pontiac, Larry Quinn’s 10.17, and Doug Henderson’s 10.34, The show is an all-run feature as could be gathered from the elapsed times falling from Henderson’s 10.34 to Mark Patterson’s Mopar Performance ’64 Dodge at 11.02.
The Stock/Super Stock final came down to Tony ‘Big Tuna” Aiardo’s G/SA Camaro against Bob Gipson’s K/S ’65 Chevelle. The win went to Gipson won when Aiardo’s converter wouldn’t hold.
UDRA PRO MOD/FUNNY CARS/EXHIBITION FINAL
Taking the win in the mini-Pro Mod field was Loren Braseth as his Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Camaro ran a 6.66, 192.18 covered an over-staged Dennis Begyn, who tossed a 8.38, 171.97. Originally, Jeff Elam’s blown ’57 Chevy was to have been the guy in the other lane, but both he and Bill Graziano’s ’67 Chevy II were too late getting back to the lanes. They were paired after the Braseth-Begyn race, Graziano took a 6.77, 200.74 to 6.84, 205.22 win.
Ron Ooms’ “Streaker’s Pride” Olds Achieva nailed its first career win when the Ohio driver took 7.16, 140.34 over Danny Crownhart, who shut-off early in a duel trouble match up.
Lance Van Hauen was supposed to be in the final with his earlier 6.14, but the discovery of a broken rocker arm resulted in a pit area execution.
Ricky “ Rattler “ Ruiz remained undefeated for 2005 in AA/FA competition clocking a 6.35, 229.90 to bury Randy Baker’s career best EY and speed 6.61, 205.69 lap in his “Nitro Madness” roadster.
