gang, we did it! Another March Meet in the books and this
46th edition really more than met my expectations. After a
little in-house restructuring, the kinder, gentler Goodguys
Rod and Custom Association brought this one in by at least
5pm on Sunday. I believe when we were loading our sad selves
(The Jeff Gaynor first-round runner F/C team) into the trailer,
I heard the announcer say something about getting in line
for time trials.
Anyway, the only major complaint I heard was a guy in the
parking lot yelling at Goodguy Andy that the Goodguys were
like the US government and the parking fee was part of a vast
conspiracy against the little guy. He was up in arms about
paying $50.00 for preferred parking - meaning he was complaining
about having to actually use the free parking outside and
having to walk that 100 extra feet. He was complaining about
fifty dollars for three days of convenience. Last week I spent
$78.00 on sushi for the family and it didn’t last anywhere
near three days. Whatever
It’s good to see that my prediction
that Top Fuel will die a slow death is not coming true.
With 26 cars on the lot and 25 making it to the starting
line, it was one of the best-attended

races in years for
the kings of the sport!
What did slightly frost my behind was commentary by some
of the die-hard Top Fuel proponents calling the Funny Cars
“leakers” and complaining about the “show”.
There was down time from both fuel classes but nothing like
the three-hour Top Fuel session at last years Vegas race.
Another whatever.
Funny Car had ten entries this year up from six last year.
Sixteen by Pomona was the word circulating the pits. Also
encouraging, in a health-of-our-sport vein, was when we went
to enter on Thursday afternoon, we were told all classes
except Top Fuel and Funny Car
were closed to additional entries.
And this is with fuel prices well above the two and a half
dollar mark here in California.
