ANDERSON MOVES TO T-BIRD
Now before all you Ford fanatics get too excited,
we don't mean that kind of Thunderbird. Greg
Anderson will be taking a ride with the famous
USAF precision flying team. On Feb. 17 Anderson
will be trading his Pro Stock Pontiac Grand
Am for a Lockheed Martin F-16D.
Thinking about the 25,000 lbs. of thrust produced
by the F-16's Pratt and Whitney engine and the
1,500 mph the aircraft can achieve, Anderson
said, "I know I'm in for an awesome ride. I
just hope I won't be egressing my breakfast,
lunch and dinner." [2-2-2004]
DIXON NO BOOB
Larry Dixon proved to know exactly what he
was talking about in his Super Bowl pick: New
England won by three points. Hope he got some
good odds.
But nobody predicted that half-time show. [2-2-2004]
GILBERTSON CHOOSES INTERN
FOR POMONA
When Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson
and his team came up with the idea to offer
an intern program at each of the 23 races on
the 2004 NHRA POWERade tour, they never imagined
that they would get over 4,000 entries. A different
intern will be chosen for each event.
Michelle Read of Creston, CA was selected to
assist the Trick Tank team at the season-opening
K&N Filters Winternationals. Read will be mentored
by George "Road-Hog" Wallace,
who helped the team at the 2003 World Finals
and was the inspiration for this program.
Read is a 38-year old legal clerk for the County of San Luis Obispo and has been a fan of all forms of racing since she started going to the races as a little kid with her dad and brothers. She took auto shop in high school, has helped off-road and sprint car teams on a volunteer basis, crewed for her boyfriend with his GTO drag car and is planning on entering her '78 Pontiac Trans Am 400 in the "Pony Express" road race in Nevada this year.
Michelle's reaction when she was told she was
selected was: "Woo hoo...yeah baby!" The Agent
knows just how she feels. [1-30-2004]
