B&M WINNERS AT VEGAS
The three-race battle is finished for the B&M
Vegas Bracket Championship at The Strip at Las
Vegas over the weekend. Mike Blodgett of Long
Beach, Calif. (photo), became the first big
winner when he grabbed the $5,000-to-win Super
Pro finale on Friday. Don Meziere of Escondido,
Calif., became the second big winner of the
weekend when he defeated John Phlegar of Las
Vegas in the $5,000-to-win Super Pro finale
on Saturday. "Hot Rod" Fuller of Las Vegas saved
the day for the local racers by winning the
final $5,000 Super Pro check Sunday.
The big Dollar winner
of the weekend was Mike Blodgett in his
1972 Chevy Vega who collected $6,500 for his
victory on Friday
and his runner-up on Sunday.
Now, let's see if these checks make it all
the way back to California and don't get snared

BACA NAMED MSPA DRAG RACER
OF THE YEAR
It's
good news-bad news for David Baca. He was looking
for some first-place finishes in 2003. Almost
the good news: he finished 7th in NHRA POWERade
points and was runner-up for Rookie of the Year
honors. Now comes the good news: the Top Fuel
driver finished first in the Motor Sport Press
Association balloting for Drag Racer of the
Year. But, now the bad news: he wasn't the first
in his family to get the award; his father,
Dennis, was recognized by the MSPA in the same
category in 1972.
Maybe 2004 is the year the talented driver
gets to the top of the mountain -- all by himself.
