HOT TIMES IN ORLANDO
As if it wasn't enough for Elliot Thompson
to make his mark at the Orlando World Street
Finals by qualifying on top of the Heavy Street
class, he left the crowd with an unforgettable
image after suffering a scary transmission
fire in the first round of eliminations on
Sunday. Fortunately, the 20-year-old escaped
the blaze with only minor burns on both wrists
and his turbocharged '91 Camaro emerged with
similarly superficial damage. Watch for Drag
Racing Online's full coverage of the World
Street Finals, including more photos of Thompson,
later this week. (Ian

IHRA SET RECORD STRAIGHT ON 2005 PRO MOD RULES!
DRO got a call from IHRA Tech Director Mike
Baker clarifying a statement released earlier
concerning proposed rule changes for the Pro
Mod class for the 2005 IHRA season. First,
Baker made it clear that the rules and the
rule book are still being written and nothing
is official until the rule book is released.
Having said that, Baker told DRO the only
rules he could tell us were certain for next
year was that the minimum weight for a nitrous

would be 2325 lbs, the maximum weight
for a supercharged car would be 2700 lbs and
that race cars with late model, Pro Stock-style
bodies would get a weight penalty in relation
to older body style cars.
He made it clear that the new management at
IHRA made a decision, after DRO had earlier
talked to Skooter Peaco, to make rules to discourage
racers from building Pro Mods with bodies that
would be similar to existing Pro Stock cars.
Baker also said that the rules would be fluid
next year and that if one body style—such
as a '53 'Vette, '53 Studebaker, '67 Camaro—became
dominant, he would make "adjustments" to
keep the competition close. [10-18-2004]
MUSI MOVING, WHAT EXIT?
Agent 1320 hears a rumor that veteran Jersey
engine builder and racer Pat Musi may be looking
to move his operation from the NEW Jersey shore
inland to somewhere in the Carolinas. Could
it be that Musi would just like to be on the "South" squad
for next year's $50,000 Big Dog Pro Street
race instead of racing for the "North" squad?
