CANNON RETURNS TO PRO MOD
MATCH RACING
It wasn't exactly a dominating performance,
since his opponent had unstoppable oil leaks,
but Scotty Cannon got his first win since announcing
his return to the Pro Modified class. In a match
race at Southern Dragway near Douglas, GA, Cannon
took on outlaw veteran Jason Scruggs. Scruggs'
blown small-block Chevy won the first round,
but hurt the engine in the process.
"It
started sputtering as soon as it left. The bolts
holding the intake were loose and it just lifted
up and leaned the engine out," Scruggs explained.
In round two, Scruggs was first off the line,
but the oil leak was too much and he slowed,
giving the win to Cannon. When the car made
it back to the pits it was thoroughly coated
in oil from stem to stern. There were even small
pools of the slippery stuff inside the cockpit.
Scruggs was unable to fix the car for the third
round appearance.
