A CONEHEAD MOVE

The Agent is proud to report that DRO's Nostalgia Editor Jeff Utterback has earned his short wheelbase nitro license at the wheel of Jeff Gaynor's Barracuda at SoCal's L.A. County Raceway. After a first pass, where the driver gathered-up a pair of LACR cones into the body supports, crew chief Mike Demarest turned up the wick getting "Mr. Pammy" to a 6.71/210-mph run on his last of four passes. Consulting on the effort were Bob Godfrey and fuel coupe veteran Dale Pulde who signed the upgrade to Utterback's license. Pulde (pictured) helped strap Utterback into the Cuda cockpit.

Now for the big-time as Gaynor's car heads to Bakersfield's Famoso Dragstrip for the Fuel & Fire Spectacular on April 24 for a series of Nostalgia Funny Car match races under the lights. Promoter John Keigley says there will be an open 16-car 7.50 e.t. field on Saturday as there are over 24 pre-entered funny cars including the popular California Independent Funny Car Association, and a $1000 Big Bucks Bracket bash scheduled for Sunday.

AMS STAFF LEASING PRO MODS MOVING?

The Agent keeps hearing rumors that since it has become known that AMS owner Dave Wood is 99 percent sure he won't renew his sponsorship of the NHRA Pro Mod program in 2005, other sanctioning bodies, networks and production companies have expressed interest in a Pro Mod series with television coverage. In the meantime NHRA seems absolutely determined to do everything in their power to disenfranchise the professional Pro Mod racers and drive them somewhere else.
