MR CAPPS' WILD RIDE
Ron
Capps sent the Agent a photo of his new toy,
an all steel '31 Ford coupe. Of course it's
got a Chevy ZZ4 aluminum head crate motor, but
this engine came as a special year end bonus
from former Exec Director of GM Motorsports,
Herb Fishel, in '98 when Capps had five national
wins and two of those wins were over John Force's
Mustang. The motor has a Whipple supercharger
boosting the horsepower on the dyno to 535 hp
with 540 lbs of torque and the rear end is one

Engineering's bulletproof models, with good
reason. Capps' buddy Alan Budnik provided the
old school-looking wheels.
Famed rod builder Roy Brizio has just finished the coupe after Ron's dad originally purchased the car when Capps was a sophomore in high school. "It was the car my dad taught me to weld on," said Capps, but he swears his new ride won't be a trailer queen and that his wife might even drive it to the market occasionally.
Now, if the Agent can just get the Skoal Racing
pilot up to L.A. to run some time trials at
Irwindale Dragstrip on a Thursday night. [5-7-2004]
THIRTY-TWO FUNNY CARS AT
THE WORLD SERIES?
The Agent hears that Scott "The Great" Gardner
is booking in 32 Funny Cars for this year's
World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova Dragway.
To quote the late Steve Evans, "It will be a
fiberglass forest, folks."
Rumor (and the Agent stresses the word rumor
here) has it that a few West Coast based Nostalgia
Fuel Coupes may make the big go East for the
51st World Series. (That's one more than the
50th U.S. Nationals for those of you keeping
score.) The Friday-Saturday race is held annually
the weekend before the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis,
which would make it Aug. 27-28, 2004. [5-7-2004]
