MORGAN TESTS TIRES?

One of the Agent's operatives called in to report that Atlanta runner-up Larry Morgan was spotted at Norwalk, Ohio on May 18 testing slicks without any lettering. The operative reported to have seen a Mickey Thompson Tire truck in the immediate area of the Mopar team's transporter and the Goodyear slicks sitting on the ground. The Southern Nationals Pro Stock pole sitter ran competitive 6.80's on the mystery meats at the private track rental test day. (Ron Lewis Atlanta photo) [5-19-2004]

the SI photogs don't know the difference.) The 18-event Friday night program averages 430 participants and has been steadily growing since its inception in 2002.

The Agent's hat is off to Chris Blair and the Drag Racing Operations staff for finding a class that is popular with participants, spectators and the media. Interesting that a street racing event gets the press, not an NHRA or IHRA national event. [5-19-2004]

PSCA HEADS SOUTH

The Pacific Street Car Association will invade SoCal's California Dragway in Fontana May 22-23 for the inaugural California Street Car Nationals with heads-up, bumper dragging doorslammers and a full index bracket program. PSCA runs 6.50 "Street Machines" and seven-second D.O.T. cars with a total of nine classes and, according to Director Mel Roth, is offering $2.5 million in contingency payments from 45 different aftermarket manufacturers.

Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at 8 a.m. on Sunday. A special Friday test-n-tune session will culminate with a "closest to dial-in challenge" at 10 p.m. www.pscaracing.com [5-19-2004]
