GOULD IS A FUNNY GUY!
Veteran Ford Fuel racer Larry Gould called
Agent 1320 recently to say he has parked the
Top Fuel car, dissolved his partnership with
driver "Fast" Freddy Bach and bolted his nitro
burning VRA-legal 'cammer into a newly certified
Funny Car chassis. He says he will drive this
car himself. The Agent is going to make a trip
over to the "Belleville Bomber's" shop to take
a few photos of this newest entry into the nostalgia
Funny Car ranks. [7-15-2004]
AREND FLIES FIREBIRD MILE-HIGH
CMKXtreme Machine Funny Car driver Jeff Arend
will be changing to a different body and for
the 25th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals
at Bandimere Speedway. Arend will be switching
from a Corvette body to a newer Pontiac Firebird
shell with updated graphics.

The
Pontiac body was formerly owned by Schumacher
Racing and should provide considerable more
down force than the slicker Corvette-style body.
That should help Arend and crew chief Paul Smith
deal with the extremely thin air in Denver.
"I think the improved aerodynamic package on
the Firebird body is really going to make a
difference," said Arend, while on vacation in
his hometown of Toronto. "Denver is the perfect
place to try it out because you can use all
the down force you can get at that altitude.
Paul Smith has had some success up on the mountain
over the years so I feel confident that with
his knowledge and experience and the change
to the Firebird body, we can turn the corner
and start going rounds on Sunday."
Arend has qualified the CMKXtreme Machine Funny
Car at the last five national events on the
NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tour, but he's
still hunting for his first round win of the
season. The 41-year-old Canadian native is currently
16th in the POWERade Funny Car point's standings
after qualifying for seven races in eight starts.

DUNN RACING ADDS SOME BLING-BLING
Arend's sponsor, CMKM Diamonds, also has come
on board as associate sponsor for the rest of
the year on Jim Dunn's Funny Car driven by Tony
Bartone. They will move up to major sponsor
for 2005. The diamond business must be doing
well, as the company announced in late June
their sponsorship of the Pro Stock Bike of Connie
Cohen.
Guess all these racers are hoping for sparkling
performances. [7-15-2004]
NMRA PARTIES IN CHICAGO
The NMRA Ford national event at the Joliet,
IL Route 66 Raceway on July 23-25 will feature
an all-Ford car show, jet cars, bracket drag
racing open to all Ford-powered motors, a car
corral and used parts swap meet, heads-up pro
tree drag racing, a burnout contest and more.
Sticker Dude Designs will once again host their
NMRA Racers Appreciation Party for all participating
competitors and crew on Saturday, July 24. The
party begins approximately one hour after racing
concludes for the day and will go until the
wee hours of the night. Festivities will include
the Babe Xtreme Girls serving drinks.
The Agent reminds the racers not to party too
hearty, though, as they still have to get through
the final rounds on Sunday. [7-15-2004]
