HIGH-SPEED VIDEO FOR HIGH-SPEED TIRES
Goodyear’s Carolyn Ashbee, Sales & Marketing
Manager for the Racing Division and Goodyear Chief Engineer
David Auffenberg were at the Vegas Nitro Warm-up with a
camera system shooting high-speed digital video. The
system has the ability to record as many as 600 frames
per second, your home video camera normally records at
30 frames per second. The unit was utilized last season
particularly to analyze the rear slicks during launch.
The team from Goodyear was in Las Vegas for all three days,
concentrating on the nitro cars. (Darr

top fuel injector hat on son Del’s CSK flopper for

problem for Del since it fell directly
into his line of vision. On the only pass the hat was tested,
the car launched hard and then got out of the groove heading
toward the centerline with Del shutting off to a 6.409.
After the pass Del explained he’d had trouble seeing
on the pass since he’d forgotten to lower his helmet
visor. The team is considering a custom scoop about half
the height of the top fuel unit and may test the idea at
another pre-season session.
