DRO’S "STREET FX"
MOTOR IS ON THE DYNO, BUT WE HAVE A PROBLEM
Just
a quick update on DRO’s Project "Street FX"
pump gas engine. The 10.5-1, 93 octane burner had its
first pulls on the dyno at the JMS Racing Engines in Monrovia,
CA. On the third warm-up pull the 468 cubic inch engine
made 563 hp at just 5300 and 552 lbs of torque at 4800
rpm. Talk about your stump puller! The team at JMS then
made some carburetor adjustments, fiddled with the timing
and a few other items, and then proceeded with the next
pull. When the engine reached exactly 6500 rpm and the
data indicated the engine was making 691 hp and 558 lbs
of torque, a brand new rod snapped and exited the brand
new Moroso pan.
Everyone is understandably disappointed, but the JMS
guys say that at first look it appears that the top end
of the engine was not harmed. As soon as we can bring
ourselves to take the pan down, we’ll get back to
you. (Darr Hawthorne photo)

GOODGUYS SET TENTATIVE VRA SCHEDULE
The Agent got a sneak peek at the proposed 2006 Goodguys
VRA schedule. All the track contracts haven't been signed
yet, but here is how it's shaping up: March 10-12 (Bakersfield,
CA); May 5-7 (Pomona, CA); May 26-28 (Seattle, WA); June
9-11 (Indianapolis, IN); June 30-July 2 (Sonoma, CA);
and Nov. 3-5 (Bakersfield, CA). So, pencil in those dates
on your racing calendar. [10-17-2005]
ANOTHER SIX FOR A FOUR-BANGER
On October 15 at Norwalk Raceway Park, Brent Rau became
the second four-cylinder powered door car in the six-second
zone recording a 6.976 at 198.29, after an initial off-the-trailer
7.005/197.51. This was accomplished while competing at
the Nopi Drag Racing Association World Finals in the Pro
Outlaw Rear Wheel Drive class. A tip of the Agent's hat
to Rau and his whole crew. The Agent guesses that now
proves the four-in-a-row really will go. [10-17-2005]
LIPAR NOT BACKING NHRA PRO MOD
SERIES IN 2006
There has been a lot of speculation going around the Pro
Mod community about the future status of the NHRA Pro
Mod program.
The Agent knows that
there are parties in negotiation with the NHRA about the
2006 season and beyond, but at least one of the current
sponsors -- Tommy Lipar Racing -- isn’t going to
be a major sponsor of the series.
As Lipar told DRO Editor Jeff Burk at the ADRL race in
Kennedale, TX, "I was a fifty percent partner with
Dave Wood of the series this year, but I’ve told
Dave I won’t be back at that level of support. If
he needed me I would be a small part of the program but
not at the fifty percent level again.”
Lipar also said that he wasn’t interested in a
nitro program for next season but did plan to return as
a Pro Mod owner. [10-17-2005]
