ESPN2, MOTEL 6 EXTEND CONTRACTS WITH NHRA

ESPN2 will remain the television home for NHRA POWERade and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events through 2011. As part of the deal, all 23-NHRA POWERade Series events will be televised on a same-day basis. The 16 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events that feature TAD and TAFC will be aired a week after the event. The NHRA began an exclusive agreement with ESPN in 2001, with the coverage moving to ESPN2 in 2005.

Motel 6, the "Official Motel of NHRA," will extend its partnership with the sanctioning body through 2007. In addition, for the 2006 season Motel 6 will be an associate sponsor of Kenny Koretsky's Pro Stock car and Clay Millican's Top Fuel dragster. [11-03-2005]

HILL SCHOOL DATES

The dates for Roy Hill's Drag Racing School at Valdosta, GA are November 14-16, November 17-19, and December 8-10. DRO's Ian Tocher will attend one session, but hasn't decided which as of yet. Editor Jeff Burk went through Hill's school many years ago and the video tape is buried somewhere in the DRO library. Perhaps we have found the entertainment for this year's DRO Christmas party, hmmm? [11-03-2005]

SFI & NHRA MAKE TOP FUEL, ALCOHOL SPEC UPDATES

NHRA has sent the following update to affected participants. "Recently, the SFI Foundation changed the SFI Specification for a Top Fuel chassis to the SFI 2.3M Specification.

As a result, NHRA has updated its accepted specification for all Top Fuel chassis with the following guidelines: All new chassis constructed on or after November 1, 2005 must meet SFI Specification 2.3M. For all other chassis, even if the chassis certification is current, the chassis must comply with SFI Specification 2.3M by April 1, 2006.

"As part of the revision to SFI Specification 2.3M, SFI has separated the chassis information that relates to an alcohol chassis into a new section, SFI Specification 2.1. This alcohol chassis change is only a reference change and does not affect the technical requirements for alcohol chassis."

A check of www.sfifoundation.com, however, shows no mention of specification 2.3M as of this date, so the Agent still doesn't know exactly what is changed.

The NHRA has made other changes to their 2006 rules as noted by Bret Kepner in our News & Analysis section. [11-03-2005]
