NORTH FROM ALASKA
And while we're talking of Alaskan cars, the Agent got
this shot of the Road Runner Pro Mod from Steve Cook of
Anchorage. The car should weigh around 2600 lbs. with
driver. The engine is a 540 Hemi, starting out with 108
percent overdriven on the blower. PSI says that at 10,300
rpm the engine should make around 3600 hp. The chassis
was completed by Brad Hadman. The car would run in an
outlaw class in the lower 48 or motor change.
The Agent can't help but wonder just how long the Alaskan
drag racing season is. [11-21-2005]
KEPNER GETS EARL LIVERPOOL AWARD
St.
Louis International Raceway gives out the Earl Liverpool
memorial sportsman award each year. It is the track's
most coveted award. This year the award went to DRO Editor
at Large Bret Kepner for his 30-some years of service
to that track.
"It was an award well deserved," said DRO Editor
Jeff Burk. "I’ve been friends with Bret Kepner
for almost 30 years and during that time he has held nearly
every job that is available at the St. Louis track. He’s
always been an ambassador and PR flack for the track and
its racers in print, on TV, and in person. If they open
the gates and have a race and you don’t see Bret
either taking pictures, announcing, racing or just hanging
out it’s because he’s in the emergency room."
Burk added, "Without doubt Bret 'Mr. Dirt' Kepner
deserved this award, and let me add my own sincere congratulations.
Now get back to work, you %**#@&!" (Steve

DOTY-PETTIT SPLITSVILLE
Goodguys
Nitro Funny Car champs George Doty and Larry Pettit have
agreed to part ways in their ’71 “Crazy Horse”
Mustang and race against each other for the 2006 season.
“The only thing I don’t have right now is
the engine we won with,” said George Doty, “but
I’ve got four more engines here at the shop and
plenty of stuff on order.” The team set the VRA
record of 5.927 on their way to winning the Goodguys Fuel
and Gas Finals at Famoso Raceway. (Mike

FIRST-TIME FAN
Outlaw
10.5 star Steve Kirk Jr. and wife Lynn proudly showed
off their new addition to the family at the ORSCA season
ender at Atlanta Dragway. Making his race-going debut
was 10-week-old Steve "Trae" Kirk III, who seemed
happily oblivious to the motorized fury surrounding him.
Good thing he likes really fast cars. (Ian Tocher photo)
