SEEING THE LIGHT?
The
NHRA Senior VP for Racing Operations, Graham Light, was
at the Pacific Street Car Association Finals event held
over the weekend at California Dragway. Light (at right)
and Top Alcohol Dragster owner Jack O’Bannon were
checking out the unique collection of “street”
machines at the NHRA member track. Light said of the experience,
“I was pleasantly surprised at how professional
many of the teams and racecars are and the performances
are really outstanding.”
After walking the pits, Light and O’Bannon spent
the afternoon sitting in the grandstands and, according
to a source, Light purchased his own ticket. The Agent
thinks it is always good to check out how somebody else
is doing things -- you might get some ideas for you own
operation. (Mike Bumbeck photo)

Tim Lynch and tuner Steve Petty were at it again this
past weekend at Atlanta Dragway, lowering the Outlaw 10.5
E.T. record to 4.466 seconds over the eighth mile.
The record-setting run came during the first round of
eliminations at ORSCA's season-ending non-points race,
so it doesn't qualify as an official ORSCA mark. Regardless,
Lynch backed it up with a 4.477 at 170.26 mph, which also
set an unofficial new top speed record. In fact, he ran
in the 4.40s all day, but lost to a holeshot by Terry
Robbins in the final round. DRO will have full race coverage
available shortly. (Ian Tocher

Tom
Ranes came all the way down from Anchorage, AK, to close
out his Outlaw 10.5 season at the Atlanta ORSCA event.
While there, Ranes revealed he is having a new '05 Mustang
built by Keith Engling at Skinny Kid Race Cars in Michigan,
primarily for use in Fun Ford's Pro 5.0 category, though
it will be easily adaptable to other series' rules with
pre-planned modifications. The new car will feature an
all-carbon-fiber body, Ranes said, and will carry a Steve
Petty-built, twin-turbo, big-block Ford powerplant up
front. It should be ready early next spring, painted similarly
to his wild 2003 Cobra 10-wide car (shown).
