GILBERTSON'S NEW RIDE

The Agent received this drawing of Bob Gilbertson's new Funny Car rolled up and attached to a carrier pigeon's leg. NEW DESIGN FOR HERBERT DRAGSTER

This week Doug Herbert released the new paint scheme for the new Snap-on Tools/Doug Herbert Performance Top Fuel dragster. "Once we know what the car is going to look like, it just gets everyone excited," Herbert said. "Having the paint scheme allows us to get the rest of the vehicles (return van, haulers and souvenir trailers) all painted, we can get the crew uniforms done and just get everything ready so we can focus on racing as soon as possible." Warren and Kurt Johnson ran some great numbers during testing at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, GA. Kurt's Cobalt ran a 6.604 during a run on Tuesday, Dec. 13, which is nearly three hundredths of a second quicker than the current record.

The next day, his father's GTO ran a 6.613 at 210.08 mph, almost two miles per hour faster than the NHRA record. Looks like a little job security might mean an increase in performance, eh? [12-19-2005]
