TORCO ASSOCIATE SPONSOR ON ALL
SCHUMACHER TEAMS
Torco Racing Fuels, Inc., has been named by multi-team owner
Don Schumacher as an associate sponsor on all eight of his
teams competing in the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Torco Racing Fuels is the official fuel of the IHRA series
and, through its partnership with ProNitro, LLC, distributes
nitromethane to racers in the IHRA series and makes it available
during testing sessions to NHRA pro competitors. Torco also
provides racing gasoline to the IHRA as well as to the sportsman
classes of NHRA.
"This is fantastic," said Evan Knoll, president/owner
of Torco Racing Fuels, Inc. "To be associated with NHRA
and Don Schumacher Racing is a wonderful thing. While our
fuels are legal during NHRA tests, we would like to see our
nitromethane used in NHRA competition in the pro classes.
We are presently negotiating with the NHRA."
Don Schumacher Racing teams include the Matco Tools Iron
Eagle Dodge Stratus driven by Whit Bazemore, the Mopar/Oakley
Dodge Stratus steered by Gary Scelzi, and the Ron Capps-piloted
Brut Dodge Stratus in the Funny Car class. Also part of
the largest team in NHRA history are reigning Top Fuel champion
Tony Schumacher, in the U.S. Army Dragster, Antron Brown
and Angelle Sampey, on the U.S. Army Pro Stock Motorcycles,
and Pro Stock Car drivers Jeg Coughlin Jr., in the Jeg's
Mail Order/Mopar Dodge, and Richie Stevens in the Team Mopar
Hemi-powered Dodge Stratus. [2-8-2005]
PRO-EDELBROCK CHANGES CLASS NAME,
RULES
The PRO-Edelbrock Fastest Street Car Drag Racing Series
has re-named its Cheap Street class to Car Craft Magazine
Street Race and released new rules.
"We had a very hard time developing the class as an
entry-level eliminator," explained Charlie Harmon,
Vice President of Events for ProMedia, which produces the
series. "As there seemed to be no easy way to salvage
the original class, we worked hand in hand with Car Craft
Magazine to re-develop Cheap Street into Car Craft Street
Race, a category we can now truly say is the ultimate real-world
street car class."
The mid nine-second class is designed for 1950 and later
domestic street-oriented power adder vehicles using small
blocks and big blocks, nitrous, blowers and turbochargers
on nine-inch wide DOT approved street slicks. For the new
class, each event winner will be required to carry an additional
20 lbs. for the next event, and the runner-up will be required
to carry an additional 10 lbs. This will be cumulative through
the racing season, meaning that each time a racer finishes
first or second, more weight will be added at the following
event. [2-8-2005]
