MENARDS ON THE MOVE

Cary Menard, NHRA VP of technical administration and legal affairs, reportedly will be leaving the sanctioning body this week to become a mortgage banker.

His brother, Glenn Menard, has been appointed General Manager of the Louisiana Superdome and New Orleans Arena. Among many other sports venue positions, he was manager of the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX and an IHRA Vice President when the sanctioning body was owned by Billy Meyer. Menard has been Assistant General Manager of the New Orleans Arena since 1998. [3-2-2005]

RAIN WASHES OUT SUNDAY ACTION AT ADRL OPENER

Persistent rain at Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, MS forced the cancellation of the Feb. 27 program at the ADRL SpeedTech Winter Drags presented by TLR, the first of six events on the FLOWMASTER American Drag Racing League’s 2005 schedule. The scheduled two-team, three-round competition will not be made up.

Before the rain fell, however, the Winter Drags did determine champions in two eliminators on Saturday.

Following three rounds of qualifying, Mike Neal beat Troy Critchley in the Pro Extreme final and Johnny Pilcher (shown) captured the Pro Nitrous title with a final-round win over Rickie Smith. Pilcher is the first racer to win with one of Sonny Leonard's new Pro Mod Chevy Hemi engines.

The next event in the series will be the May ADRL DRAGPALOOZA presented by TLR in Valdosta, GA. (Ian Tocher photo) [2-28-2005]
