Capps met the crew on Jeff Gaynor's Nitro Funny Car over
the weekend at LA County Raceway in a testing session. While
pilot (and DRO Nostalgia editor) Jeff Utterback made three
passes on the slippery track, Capps watched intently and
rolled up his sleeves to help tuner Dale Pulde adjust the
clutch for the last pass before curfew.
Capps will test this coming weekend at Bakersfield's Famoso
Raceway along with Utterback. The team has now added Jeg's
High Performance as an associate sponsor. (Brooke

A CHIP OFF THE OLD. . .WHO?
The Agent hears that congratulations are in order after
the birth of Nesbit Ausburn King III. The young lad joins
older sister Bella at the home of Pro Mod racer "Chip"
King. DRO editor Jeff Burk, himself the third generation
in a row with the same name AND nickname, gives this advice
to daddy Chip: "Just find a nickname that belongs to
the kid alone." [7-6-2005]
NOSTALGIA FC EVENT COMING IN '06
In other Nostalgia Funny Car news, the Agent hears rumors
that "Berserko" Bob Doerrer is working on plans
and a major sponsor has been secured for the "biggest
event ever" for Vintage Nitro floppers. No location
for the 2006 event was disclosed, but a formal announcement
will roll out in October. It looks as though the heartland
of America is a target for this venue so funnies from both
coasts can attend. [7-6-2005]
THE
EARLY DAYS
Richard Parks forwarded this photo from Jim Miller, who
is working with the American Hot Rod Foundation to preserve
hot rodding and racing heritage. Richard, son of NHRA founder
Wally Parks, will be contributing occasionally to DRO. This
photo is of the senior Parks in 1951. Hey, we like that
motto. [6-7-2005]
