Coughlin debuted his Sonny Leonard-built 815 cid Chevy "Semi-Hemi"
at the July 22-23 NMCA event at Cordova Dragway Park in
Northwestern Illinois. Coughlin, who will be driving a Mustang
this weekend in the AMS/TLR class at the SPORTSnationals
in Columbus, Ohio, ran a best of 6.761/206.46 using a converter
and five-speed. He told the Agent he figures the 2,300-lb
car should eventually get into the 6.50 range.

DRO THREATENS LEGAL ACTION!
DRO was both shocked and disappointed to hear that NHRA
has abruptly and with no notice dropped the Golf Cart class
at NHRA national events effective at the upcoming event
at Sonoma. DRO's new cart was entered in a DRAW charity
race at that event.
"We spent a lot of money developing our Electro-Mod
golf cart specifically for this class," said DRO team
owner Jeff Burk. "We had just taken delivery of our
new cart and trick new batteries. We'd acquired a U-Haul
trailer and our driver, Darr Hawthorne, has quit his full
time meat-packing job in Pacoima! I can't tell you how devastated
we are."
"We have no place left to race. We've no choice but
to take legal action to force NHRA to re-instate the class.
Our law firm of Dewey, Cheathum and Howe will file the appropriate
papers in the morning in Los Angeles Superior Court,"
said team spokesman C. Bley Martin. "We're asking for
12 billion dollars, possession of Columbus Dragway and a
beer bong hat -- and we'll accept nothing less." [7-26-2005]
BLODGETT FAMILY FIGHTS LUPUS
The Agent got a note from racer Mike Blodgett about his
family's quest to raise awareness of Lupus, an auto-immune
system disease, which afflicts his wife. The Blodgetts began
selling Opportunity Drawing tickets in February and have
raised nearly $13,000 so far, with 100% of the proceeds
going directly to Lupus International.
The family's goal is to raise another $7,000 by November.
They have already given away two prizes to people who have
purchased tickets. Super Gas racer Carl Spear won a $1,000
shopping spree at JEG'S and Super Gas racer Glenn Smith
won a NASCAR prize package from California Speedway. The
Grand Prize will be a ride for four people aboard the Goodyear
blimp "Spirit of America." That winner will be
announced at the NHRA World Finals in November. For more
