'TAKE ME BACK TO TULSA,' SAYS
POLBURN
After
the loss of Virginia Motorsports Park from the IHRA fold,
president Aaron Polburn thinks it might be a good time for
the sanctioning body to spread out geographically. Where
might be the next national event location outside the predominantly
Southeastern venues? Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
"I've made it very clear we need to be in Tulsa. It's
not a matter of if. . .it's a matter of when," Polburn
said. "When (track owner) Dan Guterman gets all the
pieces and parts put together we will be there.
"There is a possibility he will have all the parts
in place for us to go there as early as next year. If he
doesn't, we'll wait." Polburn added, "If it has
to be an 11-event schedule for next year, so be it. We aren't
going to force an event just to have 12 events." (Roger

GTO FLOPPER?

It
didn't sound right to the Agent either, but after checking
with some of his Detroit operatives, it seems GM is sticking
with the popular Monte Carlo funny car. The replacement
for the Firebird carbon fiber bodies were introduced last
year and will go through some refinement and get the new
Monte nose as happened this year in NASCAR, but there are
no plans for GM to support a GTO branded project.
As professional chassis builders get caught up on their
backlog, four GTO's Pro Stockers will debut at Indy. Jason
Line, Jim Yates, Mark Pawuk and Mike Edwards will all have
new rides for the U.S. Nationals. (Darr
