HOUSTON TRACK RIVALRY

The
Agent found it interesting that "small-guy"
Houston Motorsports Park (HMP) significantly outdrew cross-town
rival and major-league player Houston Raceway Park (HRP)
Sept. 17-18, when both venues hosted $20K-to-win Outlaw
10.5 events. HMP managed to put together a 32-car Outlaw
10.5 field compared to 12 entries in HRP's show.
In a post on HRP's online message board, Scott Singleton,
the track's
announcer/photographer claimed that "neither track
made money on the events."
Regardless, he also stated, "we (HRP)
did better than expected and will have more of these type
races in the future. I think all party's (sic) involved
will sit back and realize that it is not smart business
to post races on top of each other no matter who it is!"
The Agent hopes it is a lesson many competing
tracks would learn. [9-22-2005]
MORE PINKS
The
Agent's Hollywood agent spoke with producer/host Rich
Christensen (pictured) of the Speed TV series "PINKS"
where contestants put up the title to their cars and stand
to "lose your race -- lose your car" while racing
a best-of-five match down drag strips. Since the show
surprised Speed TV with its popularity, the network has
given the go-ahead to the producers for a second season.
"We're going to blow the fans away
in season two," said Christensen. "We've got
more than 200 applicants interested in putting their pink
slips on the line. We've got Corvettes, a Ferrari, a Porsche.
Season two will be loaded with incredible cars putting
it all on the line."
The show will be adding technical advisors
for the 2006 season, hiring first season racers Nathan
Pritchett of Shocker Motorsports in Maryland and Charles
Hendrickson of Pro Dyno High Performance in Arizona to
assist with race logistics and driver negotiations.
"PINKS" currently airs Wednesday
nights on Speed TV at 8:30 p.m. ET and PT. [9-22-2005]
REMEMBER US
Charlie, the DRO office cat, reminds our readers to remember
the animals currently in need of rescue after Hurricane
Katrina and soon to need rescue after Hurricane Rita.
He suggests you make a donation to www.aspca.org.
