CALIFORNIA
DRAGWAY NOT IN DANGER
DRO received this letter from Gillian Zucker,
President of California Speedway:
"The good news is that people are reading your
website. The bad news is the reports that we are closing
the California Dragway are inaccurate and the letters
are becoming a nuisance. Thanks for your concern about
the California Dragway but would you please help us out
and discontinue the 'campaign'? We're NOT considering
closing down the Dragway. The truth is that we have a
request before our Board of Director's for an enhancement
project to the facility that would interfere with the
current location of the Dragway. For that reason only,
we have not yet begun to book our 2006 schedule.
"Please help us spread the word,
no one at the California Speedway is interested in shutting
the dragway down. We agree, this market is underserved
for drag racing and it is a viable motorsports product.
Our plan is to continue to do anything we can to preserve
and grow this asset. Thank you for your continued support."

In
a letter to one of our readers which was forwarded to
DRO, Ms. Zucker explained further, saying, "No one
here feels the track isn't 'appealing.' It was completely
disassembled for the Labor Day NASCAR weekend to make
room for parking which is in short supply here on our
NASCAR weekends. However, we reassembled it in a week
to be ready for our drag strip event this past weekend.
It is certainly not an insurmountable task. Clearly, this
market is underserved for drag racing and it is a viable
motorsports product. Our plan is to continue to do anything
we can to preserve and grow this asset."
DRO is happy to spread the word, Ms. Zucker,
and happy that the importance of this track is understood.

ROUSH GOING BACK TO HIS ROOTS?

One of the Agent's NASCAR operatives reports
that the man in charge of business development for the
Jack Roush NASCAR empire is searching for independent,
verifiable TV ratings and other info regarding NHRA's
POWERade events. Perhaps Jack Roush is at least looking
into a return to NHRA Pro Stock racing? (DRO
