HALE
GETS SUPERCHARGED WARRIORS WIN
The Beaver Springs Dragway Labor Day Nationals
was the latest stop on the Supercharged Warriors series.
Elimination round races were some of the tightest of the
year. Mike Himes Danger Zone took out the Thriller of
Joe Veschusio, 7.82 to 7.79; John Perrello over Scott
Hohensee's Fiat, 7.81 to 7.79; Bob Lascak over Marty Beno
7.82 to another 7.79; Micky Hale's Chevy over Jerry Strebs
Camaro, 7.81 to 7.73; and No. 1 qualifier John DeCort
made a single at 8.10. Bob Lascak got the Enderle Reaction
Time award with his .020 light in his round win and John
Perrello took home the Mickey Thompson Tires Burnout award
as the crowd voted his the best burnout.
The Final matched Micky Hale in the "Warlock"
Chevy Coupe against John Perrello's "Lethal Injection"
Corvette. Hale got out first with a super .002 reaction
time to Perrello's .051 light and stayed out front to
get the win 7.81 to a 7.82. (photo

BEARD, FLYNN SIGN
LONG-TERM CONTRACTS WITH POWERS TEAM
Once again the Agent sees an example that
about the only loyalty in the professional tuning ranks
is to pictures of dead presidents

.
Last month the Agent reported that Lee Beard had signed
a deal with the Don Prudhomme team to tune their Top Fuel
car. The Agent only printed that item after confirmation
by crew persons that they had been approached by Beard
to see if they would follow him to the Prudhomme camp.
The report that Lee Beard and Rob Flynn
have just signed contracts with the David Powers Top Fuel
team until 2008 should surprise no one. Remember earlier
this year when, even though he had signed with Doug Herbert
to tune his Top Fueler for 2005, Ed McCulloch ankled over
to the Schumacher camp for more money. It really is all
about the "Benjamins" in nitro racing.
The only question the Agent wants to ask
is when will one of the owners who has a signed contract
from a tuner refuse to release him or her just because
they received a better offer. [9-09-2005]
MORE AUSSIE NHRA
PROS
Reader Paul Rogers sent a note to remind the Agent of
even more Australian drivers who have made the NHRA Professional
fields: "Cowin Jr and Sr, and Jim Read in RJ Trotter's
car at Pomona in '81 (I think it was '81) with Cowin Jr
and Read qualifying first; Read at his only attempt!"
