NOW THERE ARE TWO
The Agent got this photo of Mike Boisvert’s version
of a “Blue Max” nitro Funny Car. Interestingly
this car is not presented as a clone of the original nor
as a VRA-legal Nostalgia Funny Car. According to Dave
Modder, who works on the crew, they just plan to match
race the car from their Delevan, WI, base. Apparently
the chassis is not period correct, although the team says
that both Raymond Beadle and Harry Schmidt confirm that
it is an original body. The engine is a 440-inch iron
block with Brad Anderson heads. Their plans are to match
race only with 65-75 percent nitro in the tank. The Agent
can’t wait to see this car match race some where,
like maybe the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova?
Modder also sent along a photo of his Dragon's Fyre Jet
Dragster at Union Grove last Labor Day Weekend.

COUGHLIN, THE NEXT GENERATION
Third
generation drag racer Troy Coughlin Jr. made the trek
to Southern California's Irwindale Dragstrip this week
for a Jr. Dragster challenge on the Jesse James TV show
Monster Garage. The competition was between Troy Jr. and
a young driver of the Monster Garage-built dragster. Summer-like
weather greeted dad Troy Coughlin Sr. and his daughter
Meghan along with a Team Jeg's transporter
Since the Agent was sworn to secrecy on the outcome of
the competition, all we can tell you that Troy Jr. won
the first round race to his competitor's red light foul
start. As soon as Troy Jr. gets his Ohio drivers license
he'll be angling to roll out one of the Jeg's Mail Order
Super Gas cars to carry on the family tradition. It must
be in the blood. (Darr Hawthorne
