Bazemore, driving a Camaro Z28, won his first Funny Car race of the
year and his first since the 1999 NHRA Autolite Nationals in Sonoma,
defeating Scotty Cannon's Camaro Z28 at Bandimere Speedway in only the
third all-Camaro final round in NHRA history. In the final, Bazemore
also posted the first 4-second lap, a 4.990 at 301.20 mph.

Master chassis builder Jerry Haas delivered the first ever NHRA-legal
Mercury Cougar Pro Stocker to racer and dragstrip owner Jim Cunningham.
Haas developed the Cougar from scratch with help from Jack Rousch engineers.
