FIRST FOUR ON THE MOUNTAIN
Whit Bazemore, driving a Camaro Z28, won his first Funny Car race of the year and his first since the 1999 NHRA Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, defeating Scotty Cannon's Camaro Z28 at Bandimere Speedway in only the third all-Camaro final round in NHRA history. In the final, Bazemore also posted the first 4-second lap, a 4.990 at 301.20 mph.

HAAS UNVEILS NEWEST PRO STOCKER!!
Master chassis builder Jerry Haas delivered the first ever NHRA-legal Mercury Cougar Pro Stocker to racer and dragstrip owner Jim Cunningham. Haas developed the Cougar from scratch with help from Jack Rousch engineers.

"This is the first new car that I have built using the new NHRA mandated body templates," Haas told Agent 1320. "I worked with NHRA every step of the way and we are very happy with the outcome."

The body fits NHRA's "zero tolerance" templates. Haas shook the car down for Cunningham at Gateway International Raceway where the car ran low 7.20's.
