What Oddy didn't mention but that Agent 1320 thinks should be
noted is: 1) When Oddy and Hahn field a nitrous car they will be able
to race a car that weighs 300 lbs less than their current car. 2) They
will have the option of a three-disc clutch and3) They won't be restricted
to a single rear gear ratio.
Oddy will be able to build an engine almost 200 inches bigger than
what he has now.
"I'm just tired of constantly fighting rules changes and being forced
to completely rebuild my combination every time we make a good lap.
Like the man said 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.' So that's what
we are going to do. After this season is over I'm going to push the
6.17 car over in the corner, put a tarp over it and start building my
new nitrous car. Our whole team are really fired-up and excited about
developing a new engine and race car. All we want to do is race and
get along with our fellow racers. Maybe changing over to a nitrous engine
will help."
NO NHRA TV FOR CANADA?
NHRA recently announced their new television package for the next five
years - an exclusive deal with ESPN and ESPN2. Agent 1320 is glad they
put the deal together and hopes that it delivers the coverage that the
sport desperately needs. However, one of the Agent's operatives from
north of the border called to inform us that Canada doesn't get ESPN
or "the deuce." Agent 1320 wants to know if the Glendora gang knows
that and if there is a Plan B for NHRA fans North of the border.
KUDOS FOR BRUTON SMITH
Agent 1320 has long thought that charging little kids under the age
of 11 up to $10 just to get into an NHRA race was counterproductive.
Evidently Bruton Smith and Jeff Byrd feel the same way as the Agent
was told that at Bristol, groups of kids were afforded tickets at a
rate of $5 per. A tip of the Agent's fedora to the Bruton bunch!
IS THE NITROFISH BELLY-UP?
Evidently
the NitroFish got some bad bait as the "Fish" hasn't been seen at NHRA
National Events in quite a while and the program may be dead in the
water. Clutch man Nick Ford has already moved to the Prudhomme camp
and crew chief Wayne Dupuy is also fishing around for work.
PRO STOCK REPORTS
ITS NEON FOR MOPAR
Supposedly both the Pro Stock racers and the Funny Car contingent that
use Mopar bodies will be getting a stretched version of the Dodge Neon
for next year. Could we be seeing neon in the wheel wells of a Pro Stocker?
REHER MORRISON ARE RED WHITE AND BLUE AGAIN!
The Reher-Morrison Pro Stocker has a retro look these days as the paint
scheme has changed from the red and black paint they've been sporting
recently to their traditional white with red and blue paint scheme of
yesteryear.
