"FASTEST STREET CAR SHOOTOUT" TO OPEN NORWALK SEASON
On April 21-22 Norwalk Raceway Park and Summit Racing will present an inaugural event that already promises to become a classic. In a word, if you're street-legal for the state of Ohio and can pass a state safety inspection, you've got a place to race in this one. And the winner will be able to wear his or her "Ohio's Fastest Street Car Shootout" crown and hold bragging rights as the undisputed, baddest Street Machine owner from April on. In addition, the winner will have his or her car displayed at Summit headquarters in Akron, and is guaranteed an article in Street & Strip Magazine, the leading periodical dedicated to the street scene. Purse money and prizes are to be announced in the coming weeks.

The "Fastest Street Car Shootout" will be the featured attraction of the "Dave and Ed's Spring Warmup" meet that traditionally starts the season at NRP.

"Traditionally, we've always rewarded champions at the end of the racing season, and we feel that's as it should be for those racers who contend over a full eight-month racing calendar," track operator Bill Bader, Jr. said. "But the growing popularity of these street cars - that are fully capable of going over 200 miles per hour - has never been afforded a setting in which the question of who's really the 'baddest of the bad' could be settled, so we figured we could provide that spotlight and present it as the kickoff to what we truly feel will be our best year ever - for the fans, for the racers and for us."

The rules for the race are to be kept to minimum, in keeping with its "Run What Ya Brung" format that has proven over the years to be one of drag racing fans' favorites. An Ohio Highway patrolman will be present in the check-in area to certify that every car in competition can pass an Ohio Highway inspection. The car must also be registered in the state of Ohio, though the driver doesn't necessarily have to have an Ohio driver's license.
