16-CAR TOP FUEL FIELD AT GOODGUYS MARCH MEET "Up until now, we weren't able to conduct the 16-car top fuel field for several reasons," explained Goodguys President Gary Meaders. "The purse structure and adding an extra round to Sunday's eliminations were the main issues. Now we will start eliminations earlier on Sunday and we've also been able to secure some extra funds to pull off the 16-car ladder. Both racers and fans will benefit from the new format." With the new format, Goodguys top fuel contestants who reach the final round will have to compete four rounds of eliminations. SHIRLEY TO COMPETE AT VIRGINIA AND CANADA IHRA EVENTS Drag racing pioneer Shirley Muldowney will add a couple of IHRA national events to her match race schedule for 2001. Muldowney will contest the AC Delco Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, April 20-22 and the Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals at the Grand Bend (Ontario) Motorplex, June 1-3. Shirley was runner-up to Clay Millican at last year's Canadian race, where she turned in the first 300-mph Top Fuel pass in Canadian drag racing history and set top speed of the event in the first round of eliminations at 310.13 mph. CAYUGA DRAGWAY SWITCHES TO IHRA "We appreciate the progressive, hands-on approach IHRA takes with their tracks and weekly racing programs," said track manager Neale Armstrong, "I look forward to giving Cayuga racers all the benefits IHRA offers, including the opportunity to compete at the bracket finals in Norwalk." The facility is located 30 miles west of Buffalo, N.Y.
