TOM ANDERSON TO CONSULT ON JANIS TEAM
Crew chief Jerry Highway feels that the addition of Tom
Anderson as a consultant to the Mike Janis Racing team will benefit
not only the team, but Highway himself. "Tom Anderson is a very smart
guy. I know there are things I will be able to learn from him, and that
makes me a better crew chief, which makes this a better team."
The team ran a "You Make the Call" contest to
pick the new paint scheme for the car. The winning design is shown above.
A tip of the Agent’s hat for the innovative marketing idea.
BAILEY TO DRIVE FOR HAVOC MOTORSPORTS
The Havoc Motorsports Top Fuel team will return to IHRA
competition at Rockingham with veteran Jim Bailey behind the wheel.
Team owner Marvin Foxworth purchased Darrell Gwynn’s Top Fuel car at
the end of last season and the team has rebuilt the car top to bottom.
Bobby Rex will return as crew chief with Rick Cassell
and Doug Foxworth handling engine tuning. Foxworth previously was the
driver, but was seriously injured last year in a crash at Grand Bend,
Canada and has relinquished the driving duties.
Bailey, an IHRA veteran with seven T/F victories and one
in an Alcohol Funny Car, spent the past three years driving for Doug
Herbert’s Snap-On team.
DYNO DON STILL GOING STRONG
"Dyno"
Don Nicholson is in his seventies but he can still work a four speed.
Dyno showed at Moroso and drove one of the Nostalgia Super Stockers
that compete with the NMCA. We didn't get the name of who owned the
car that the legendary Dyno Don drove, but kudos to them for putting
him between the pipes for a pass. (Photos by Steve

THE "MADMAN" IS STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!
If
you don't remember E.J. "The Michigan Madman" Potter you should. In
the sixties Potter campaigned the bike shown in these photos. Potter
was bad fast and famous. He also had a Dodge Dart station wagon with
a V-16 Allison in the front seat. Potter even did a stint with a couple
of Allison-powered pulling tractors.
The
60-years-young Potter showed up at the NMCA race at Moroso and, according
to a DRO staffer, simply wanted to make a couple of passes on his famous
bike just for fun. Evidently the NMCA people either didn't remember
Potter or their insurance wouldn’t cover him. Either way a whole bunch
of people who never saw this bike run missed a rare opportunity. He
did make a run for our photographer, though. (Photos
