Pro Mod's in the news:
NHRA PRO MODS IN 2002

The Agent hears from several usually reliable sources that it is all but a done deal that Pro Modified will be a professional class in NHRA for the 2002 season with a 10-12 race schedule. With the lack of alcohol funny cars showing up at NHRA National Events recently, whatever influence the alky racers and the manufacturers that supported them may have had is weakened. The Pro Mods have been very popular at all events they have appeared so far this year.

A JEGSTER IN PRO MOD IN 2002

Agent 1320 hears that as soon as NHRA does officially announce that Pro Modified will be a class in 2002 the Coughlins will start building a Pro Modifed and that Troy Coughlin will be the driver. The Agent can hardly wait to see what engine builder Dick Maskin will be able to do with a 710-inch nitrous oxide injected engine. Can you say "six-teens" from a carbureted 'slammer?

CANNON COMING BACK TO PRO MOD?

Agent 1320 hears that a Cannon may be seriously looking at a return to Pro Modified, but not Scotty Cannon. Word has it that Scotty's son may be getting a ride in a blown '41 Willys, that Cannon's friends at Eagle Racing Engines would be supplying the engines and that it could happen some time this year. If NHRA announces the class for 2002 this would make a lot of sense for the Cannon family.

24 PRO MODS INVITED AT ST. LOUIS

Attention Pro Mod fans -- if you haven't made plans to attend the NHRA race at St. Louis maybe you should. NHRA told DRO that they had invited 24 Pro Modifieds for the St. Louis race. That's 24 cars attempting to qualify for eight spots at St. Louis and, to up the ante a little more, it will be the last chance for these guys to qualify for the U.S. Nationals invitational. Don't miss this one says Agent 1320!

MORGAN SWITCHES TO NICKENS HEMI POWER

Mopar Racer Larry Morgan has been building and racing his own "Hemi" since the re-introduction of the engine by Mopar last year. Recently the affable Ohioan has had some problems with his engines burning pistons and after a three-race skein of engine problems, he put a David Nickens hemi in his red hot rod and promptly went out and ran a 6.83 without hurting anything.

NEONS IN THE NEWS

Mopar people are telling DRO and others that their plan is to debut the new Neon Pro Stockers at the Mopar-backed Mile High Nationals at Denver in July. The first of the new Neons should be completed by Rick Jones' R J Race Cars shop very soon.

Speaking of Rick Jones and the Mopar Neons, there was a rumor going around at Englishtown that Mopar had pulled the Neons out of the R J shops and were sending them to Jack Rousch in Detroit to get them finished. Not true!!

Here is the straight poop. R J Race Cars in Galesburg, IL is still building the cars; the problem is with the composite/fiberglass body parts. Evidently the company originally contracted to build the body parts couldn't meet the deadlines and Mopar switched the contract to Rousch Industries in order to get the cars finished on time. We know the name of the first company but aren't going to embarrass them by printing it. Just know that R J Race Cars is building the Neons.
