'STANDARD 1320 BENEFIT AUCTION' SEEKING DONATIONS
For the past nine years racers have gathered in Bakersfield, California
for the California Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso Dragway. Since 1998 the
group also has been holding an annual event for charity. This year the
Standard 1320 Group is putting together an auction to benefit the family
of Eric Fuller who died in April at the age of 39. Eric was the son
of famed chassis builder Kent Fuller and had been battling brain cancer
when he suffered a heart attack. He was not a racer, but did race car
upholstery and made hand crafted guitars. He left a wife, Linda, and
three children.
The auction will be held October 6, after Cacklefest II. If you have
an item to donate, want to make a cash contribution or need more information,
please contact auctioneer John Ewald at dragracephotog@aol.com or view
items on the website of nitroparts.com.
MEDIA WATCH: PRIMEDIA BUYS EMAP USA
And then there was one. The automotive performance publishing industry
used to be a rather large club with members like Petersen Publishing,
McMullin & Yee, Argus, Dobbs Publishing, CSK, and Lopez Publications.
Over the last few years those were condensed down to two: PRIMEDIA and
EMAP USA.
With the just-announced acquisition of EMAP USA by PRIMEDIA there will
be (with just a few small exceptions) only one giant publishing house
publishing multiple high-performance automotive publications.
What that means in the short term is that magazines such as Hot Rod
(EMAP) and Popular Hot Rodding (PRIMEDIA), Super Chevy (PRIMEDIA) and
Chevy High Performance (EMAP), Street Rodder (PRIMEDIA) and Rod &
Custom (EMAP) will now be produced by the same company. In the long
term it may mean that some of these competing titles may disappear from
the magazine rack or that titles may be combined.
As far as drag racing is concerned, the only two circuits that have
any connection with these publishing companies at all are Roger Gustin's
Super Chevy Shows and the National Muscle Car Assn. and neither of those
two circuits are likely to be affected in any way immediately.
