WHERE DOES 'BIG' GO IN THE OFF SEASON?

Those who have spent much time around Don Garlits know that he has a special interest in UFO's. On a rare web-surfing adventure, the Agent stumbled across garlitsdon.com. John Force's sighting of Elvis at 1000 ft has nothing on this site. But it kind of explains all of Big Daddy's ahead-of-its-time innovation, doesn't it? [11-21-2002]

RICKIE, RADFORD CHANGING POISON?

(Jeff Burk photo)

The Agent has learned that West Coast Pro Mod racer Dennis Radford -- his Viper which has ran 227 and 228 is one of the fastest nitrous Pro Mods ever -- is buying Rickie Smith's Jerry Haas-built Viper. According to our sources, Radford is going east to Smith's to pick up the car and to test his engine in Rickie's ride. Smith should be taking delivery of a new Viper from Jerry Haas soon and the odds-on betting has Rickie switching over to a blower motor for his new car. The Agent can't wait to see how Mr. Smith will react should he get a blower motor and IHRA decides to penalize them after he gets his running. [11-18-2002]

SURF'S UP!!

West Coast Pro Mod hitter and NHRA National Event winner Danny Rowe has committed to racing at the entire 2003 NHRA/AMS Staff Leasing schedule of races. The Surf City team has a swoopy, new 1938 Chevy built by John Scalpi and uses a 526-inch blown wedge motor that Scalpi builds using the Sonny Leonard five-inch bore center components. The team that won the NHRA event at St. Louis last year has signed with Nowling Motorsports Management of St. Louis in an effort to find sponsorship. [11-18-2002]

SCHUMACHER FIRST IN THE FIVES?

Agent 1320 hears that Cory McClenathan was testing recently in a dragster for the Don Schumacher team. Rumor has it that Cory Mac may be taking the Berryman money with him over to Schumacher for a possible fifth car in the Schumacher stable. If that were to happen would that make Schumacher the first in the fives...as in the first five-car fuel team. [11-18-2002]
