BERT'S "BUBBLETOP" CHEVY IS READY...FINALLY

Swedish racer and chassis builder Bert Olofsson, who has also spent some time in the G-Force Race Cars shop in upstate New York, recently forwarded us these photos of his ultra trick '63 Pro Mod bubbletop Impala. It has a full-booger 526 wedge under the hood and should be a stormer when the Swedish drag season gets started. The Agent will keep you informed. [1-6-2003]

GARLITS GETS A DEAL WITH SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT

Summit Racing Equipment and Don Garlits have entered into an agreement that will see the Top Fuel legend carry the Summit colors on his Top Fuel car for four races during the 2003 NHRA season. Garlits will compete at the three Summit-backed NHRA events: Las Vegas, Columbus and Atlanta. He will also compete at the U.S. Nationals. DRO is going to get in touch with Garlits to try and get more details. When we get them so will you. [1-6-2003]

NEW CHEVY HEMI HEAD FROM SONNY'S AUTOMOTIVE

Agent 1320 hears that renowned mega-inch Chevy engine builder Sonny Leonard, who pioneered the designing and building of the five-inch bore center "Chevy" blocks used in the 800+ cubic inch IHRA Pro Stock motors, has come up with a new cylinder head to try and get the Chevy racers in IHRA Pro Mod closer in performance to those racers using the Kaase 800+ inch Ford Hemi.

A source of one of the Agent's operatives has said that the new Chevy cylinder head's combustion chamber looks much like the Ford Hemi head chamber. Not surprising considering the Fords have won something like 23 of the last 27 or so IHRA national events.

Here are the questions the Agent has: (1) Do any of these parts used in IHRA's "factory hot rods" (with perhaps the exception of the wedge Mopar cars) have real factory part numbers? (2) Does anyone care and (3) Aren't these cars really just Pro Mods that don't have blowers or Nitrous? The Agent is just asking. [1-6-2003]
