THEY'RE COMING AFTER PAT. . .ER, MAYBE THEY MEAN POPEYE
The Agent just loves this kind of press release! The wild legal street
Nova owned by Carl McCullough that had back to back wins in Orlando
at the World Street Finals before disappearing from the scene is returning.
The Nova is undergoing chassis modifications, body updates, and the
Chevy engine is being swapped for a Pro Mod legal Hemi from Thundercraft
Race Engines and supercharger guru and engine builder Darren Mayer of
Kobelco Superchargers and Redline Design/Thundercraft race engines.
The Nova will be brought up to IHRA/NHRA specs. Veteran legal street
racer Jeff Miller will handle the driving chores for the team.

"We've brought Jeff Miller on board to handle the driving," Mayer said.
"I've worked with Jeff before and he is a talented driver and will be
a key ingredient in the success of this hot rod. I will be running a
Pro Mod-legal hemispherical head combination I have been wanting to
develop for some time now. Of course, there is also a chance the car
will be sporting my latest R&D Kobelco Supercharger, and the Stage Two
Quad Star Injector.
"I enjoyed the camaraderie at the track, and the intensity of the sport,"
Mayer continued. "But I still have the fire to win and enjoy the controversy
in the street car class. In fact, I might be heard saying that we're
coming! Spinach, whining and rule changing isn't going to stop us. It's
going to be good! "

BARTON BOMBS THE SS/AA RECORD
DRO has learned that famed Hemi builder Ray Barton's son David lead
a contingent of SS/AA cars to Montgomery dragstrip in Georgia and came
away with a new national record for the class at 8.64/153. According
to DRO's source, Barton had a best sixty footer of 1.200. The track
reportedly wasn't in that good shape and the hemi-haulers were supposedly
"chirping" the tires at every shift. With good air and a really good
track (although since Barton ran as quick and fast as he did the Montgomery
track couldn't have been too bad) we should soon see a 30-year-old factory
car in the 8.50 zone. We can't wait for the SS/A-SS/AA shootout at Indy
this year! [12-12-2002]
