CAR CRAFT AWARD WINNERS NAMED; JEG COUGHLIN SR. WINS
OLLIE AWARD
Many of the biggest names in Drag Racing were in attendance for the
35th
Annual Car Craft All-Star Awards Ceremony in Indianapolis during the
U.S. Nationals. The highly regarded affair provides a stage to recognize
outstanding achievements both on and off the track in the sport of Drag
Racing.
In addition to the 26 categories that are eligible to be named to the
35th
Annual Car Craft All-star Drag Racing Team there are a select number
of special awards given out that are considered to be among the most
coveted honors in Drag Racing.
Jeg Coughlin, Sr. was the recipient of the coveted "Ollie Award"
for lifetime achievement. He is the patriarch of the Coughlin family
and the founder of the Delaware, Ohio-based Jeg's Automotive, Inc. Jeg
Coughlin, Jr was one of the four finalists in the Pro Stock driver category
and Jeg's Mail Order was also a finalist in the Pro Sponsor category,
although neither won.

Persons of the Year; Larry Dixon Jr., Top Fuel Driver; Dick LaHaie,
Top Fuel Crew Chief; John Force, Funny Car Driver; Austin Coil and Bernie

Special recognition awards were given to Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein,

BASKERVILLE GOES ON 400-MPH RIDE

During the 53rd annual Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Trials, a special
tribute was given the late Gray Baskerville of Hot Rod magazine. Racing
photog Tom Schiltz reports that when Al Teague popped the chute on a
run where he exceeded 400 mph, it was announced that Gray's ashes were
in the chute pack. "Dad" certainly would have enjoyed the

GOODGUYS NAME 2002 WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Donna Smith of Sanderson Headers was recently named the Goodguys 2002
"Woman of the Year" at the Goodguys/K & N Filters 16th
West Coast Nationals - an honor bestowed to an outstanding female in
the street rodding industry. The award was created in honor of the late
Karen Bloechl - one of the first "Goodgals" to work for the
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. [9-05-2002]
