RADIAC ABRASIVES NEW TITLE
RIGHTS SPONSOR FOR DARLINGTON WINTERNATIONALS
Radiac Abrasives of Salem, Illinois has signed on as the title rights
sponsor of this year's Darlington WinterNationals. Slated for February
13-16 at Darlington (SC) International Dragway, the Radiac Abrasives
WinterNationals will feature "The 5-Second Challenge" for Pro Modified
race cars and "The Sunoco Race Fuels First in the Forty's Challenge"
for mountain motored Pro Stocks.
Radiac Abrasives is sponsor of Mitch Stott's Pro Modified '63
supercharged Corvette (photo). Dave Pryor, President & CEO of Radiac
Abrasives said there were many reasons to get involved with the
Darlington event.
"First, it's an early season event, so Radiac will benefit from being
involved with this race, which has generated so much interest from
racers and fans," he explained. "The 'Run for the Five's' has been a hot
topic, and I feel our driver, Mitch Stott, has a good chance to be the
one to do it. And Darlington has been a good track for our team and
our customers. It's a great area of the country, and we are happy to
be involved."
This year's event will also feature eliminators
for Top Sportsman, Stock/Super Stock Combo,
all Super classes, Pro ET and Pro ET Footbrake.

PATON TO BECOME HALL OF FAMER
Canadian Funny Car driver turned team owner Barry Paton will be inducted Mar. 8, to the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in Toronto, ON. Other inductees include fellow drag racer Ken Achs, Dave Sehl, Pete Bicknell, Scott Goodyear, Bob Slack, and Roy Smith.

Paton, a retired airline captain who began
racing in the mid-'50s, turned over the family
ride -- a blown alcohol Funny Car -- to son
Todd in 1990. Along with the help of his other
son, Tony, turning the wrenches, he steered
the family to two IHRA world championships (1993
and 1995). For the last three seasons Paton
Racing has been sporadically campaigning an
NHRA nitro Funny Car, most recently with NitroFish
on the side panels.
