CAR CRAFT ALL-STAR TEAM CANCELLED
FOR 2003
The Car Craft Magazine All-Star Drag Racing Awards Program and Banquet will not take place this year.
"Due to overall economic conditions and the reduction of promotional spending the last couple of years, it's been very difficult to find the necessary sponsors to continue the program," said Car Craft Magazine Publisher, Jim Adolph. "We've lost a large number of individual brand sponsors due to major acquisitions within our industry and in the tobacco and beer categories as well."
The Car Craft sales team is working to secure
sponsors for next year. "This is a tremendous
racing tradition and we're very hopeful that
there will be a 36th annual All-Star Drag Racing
Program in 2004," said Adolph. The All-Star
Team program was begun in 1967. [3-19-2003]

A
NEW TEAM FOR DA GRUMP?
Pro Stock legend Bill Jenkins
started out the season with a motor in Mark
Pawuk's Summit-backed Pro Stocker. Now apparently
another Pro Stock legend Bob Glidden is running
the motor program for that team, but don't feel
too bad for Jenkins. One of the Agent's most
reliable operatives let him know that Jenkins
is very close to signing a seven figure deal
with a two-car Pro Stock team to develop and
supply engines for this season. [3-19-2003]
AN UPDATE FROM MR. LUCKY
The Agent got a note from Mike (Lucky) Gebus
to let say that the fuel car that he has is
the original Kenny Bernstein 314-mph car that
was front and back halved by Ty Baumgartner
and ran as an A/FD for a year and a half. He
also let us know that he plans to go Top Fuel
racing sometime in the future and that veteran
fuel wrench Terry Manzer would be turning the
screws when the car gets to the track. [3-19-2003]
FASHION POLICE ARREST FAMOUS
EX-PHOTOGRAHER
|
Jim Kelly, who, along with
the late Leslie Lovett and a few others,
were drag racing's original touring freelance
photographers for Super Stock & Drag Illustrated
as well as other early drag mags, was dragged
kicking and screaming from the podium after
being inducted into Don Garlits' International
Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Seems like the
tuxedo Kelly wore for the induction ceremony
had come up missing from the Liberace estate
and they sent the Gainesville, Florida Fashion
Police to recover it. They let Kelly keep
his ring and trophy but stripped him of
this violet-colored tux on the spot. Kelly
was last seen wearing jeans and a Hawaiian
shirt on a bus headed for Disneyland. (Jeff
