HOT ROD EDITOR GOING STREET
RACING
The Agent knows that Hot Rod Magazine Editor
Dave Freiburger is a real hot rodder, but what
he didn't know until just recently is that Freiburger
is going "Street Legal" with the Pacific Coast
Street Car series. The only info about his combination
that the Agent knows is that he will be using
some kind of supercharged engine to run in a
class where nitrous oxide injection dominates.
The Agent is glad to see the editor of the most
prestigious magazine in hot rodding going to
the strip. We'll keep you posted. [4-7-2003]
WHAPPADO GOES PLASTIC
If you've been wondering (as the Agent has)
what has happened to West Coast Pro Street/Pro
Mod legend John Scalpi we finally know the answer.
Seems like he sold his tried and true old steel-bodied
'57 and built himself this brand new fiberglass
model. He's still working the bugs out, but
thankfully it looks like the old car anyway.

ROY HILL IN A TOP FUEL CAR?
The Agent swears that this came from a usually
reliable source in the Carolinas. The Agent's
operatives tell him that the Carrier Boyz Top
Fuel team has offered and Roy Hill has accepted
an offer to drive their fuel car in Andrew Cowin
doesn't recover in time to drive. If this is
true, Roy would be driving both a Pro Mod and
Top Fuel car at that event. Roy, Roy, Roy, are
you sure you want to do that? [4-7-2003]
ROY HILL, PT 2
This might be old news, but the Agent heard
that former IHRA Alky Funny car star Von Smith
will soon be at the wheel of a new Mopar-bodied
Pro Mod and part of a two-car OdoBan/PBR Pro
Mod team. Since Howard Moon, who tunes Roy's
ride, also tuned up Von's Alky Funny, this rumor
may have some merit. [4-7-2003]
IHRA ALKY FUNNY, PRO MOD RUMORS
A strong rumor (and the Agent stresses that
this is nothing more than a rumor at this point)
has racers in the Top Ten in points in both
the IHRA Alky Funny and Pro Modified ranks talking
among themselves about not going to the IHRA
event in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in June.
Part of the problem is the nearly 2,000 mile
tow that some racers would

have
to make from some of the Southern and Eastern
states and the reluctance of some racers to cross
into Canada because of the strained relations
currently between the Canadian and U.S. governments.

RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING IN
IHRA?
Agent 1320 hears that until Shannon Jenkins
recently laid down his 6.20 pass at Rockingham
the IHRA tech department was considering mandating
a restrictor plate for the blower cars that
would fit between the hat and the top of blower
to restrict airflow much the way NASCAR restricts
airflow at the Superspeedways with a carburetor
restrictor plate. [4-7-2003]
