ROCCA REACHES OUT TO YOUNG
NATIVE AMERICANS
Johnny Rocca, owner and driver of the Dark
Horse '49 Mercury Pro Mod, has started a program
this year where he introduces young Native Americans
to drag racing. At the NHRA O'Reilly Spring
Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, Rocca (third
from left above) hosted several members of the
Alabama-Coushatta tribe, along with Tribal Chairman
Kevin Battise (above left).
Rocca, from Leesburg, Virginia, is a member
of the Southern Band of the Tuscarora Tribe.
"We're going to bring young adults to the races
at every venue on the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing
Pro Mod schedule and introduce them to drag
racing as a lifestyle, sport, and a possible
career. It's my way of giving something back
to my people," said Rocca. (Jeff
