THESE GUYS NEED A WEIGHT BREAK?
PT II
Did you hear the one about the fuel car team
that ordered a new state-of-the-art Top Fuel
car, got it to the shop, assembled it and weighed
it, only to find it too heavy? So the crew chief
orders titanium parts, fasteners and do-dads
to replace the stock parts that came with the
car, takes apart the car and re-assembles the
car. According to the guy who passed this story
on to the Agent, the car weighed about three
pounds less than before, and the bill for the
titanium was in the $8-10,000 range.
Let's see . . . that's about $3500 per pound
saved. Ouch!!! [5-23-2003]
THE GREAT DRAG RACING ONLINE
MAGAZINE "QUICK 8" IS COMING
The third annual DRO Quick Eight race is once
again on the schedule at the Cordova Dragway
Park World Series of Drag Racing -- which this
year marks its 50th birthday.
As we have done every year, we are promoting
this race as a real quick eight event. That
means that the quickest eight qualified cars
will race. No minimum elapsed time, no breakout;
just buckle up and run.

This year we simplified the rules even a little
more. If you have an open wheel car (i.e. dragster,
altered or funny car) you must have an automatic
transmission. Not a Lenco-glide or a Bruno or
anything like that you must have an automatic
trans case and converter. You can run any blower
and combination of power-adders you want, but
an automatic trans is mandatory.
As for the doorslammers, we're going to allow
any combination of engine and transmission you
want. The only caveat for that class is that
you cannot be a legal Professional class car.
If we get enough entries, we will consider
a 16-car field and we will split the qualified
field. Half of the field will be door cars and
half will be open wheel. After qualifying, it's
buckle up for heads-up old fashioned drag racing.
We are working on entry and purse. If you want
more info, call Drag Racing Online Magazine
at 636-272-6301 or email jeffburk@racingnetsource.com.
We already have a commitment from several West
Coast racers including Mike Stewart of Mike's
Transmission fame, who will bring his dragster,
and Mack Moffit, who is bringing an automatic
trans-equipped Funny Car.
