JEG
JR DOUBLES UP AT GATEWAY
Jeg Coughlin Jr will compete in both the Pro
Stock and Super Stock classes at the Sears Craftsman
NHRA Nationals this week at Gateway Internationals
Raceway. The last time Jeg attempted this feat
was in 1998. His last win in Super Stock was
in 1997 at Brainard, although he has won six
national events in the class. He last won in
Pro Stock at Vegas last year.
Jeg Jr is also the only driver in NHRA history
to win in four separate competition classes
in a single season. The historic accomplishment
occurred in 1997 winning in Super Stock, Competition
Eliminator, Super Gas and Pro Stock. (Jeff

ANOTHER FUEL ALTERED NATIONALS?
News flash! The Agent hears that Arizona Fuel Coupe/Fuel Altered pilot Mac
McCord has some financial backing and may put
on a fuel altered race at Firebird Raceway on
November 14-15. Supposedly, it will feature
both real fuel altereds (i.e. short wheelbased,
evil handling, unpredictable fuel burners) and
the more reliable but boring 125-inch wheelbased
Funny Cars with altered bodies known as "transformers."
Regardless, if they look like fuel alts and
they burn nitro, the Agent is all for the deal.
More info when we get it. [6-23-2003]
DICK'S OTHER CAR DOESN'T BURN
NITRO
Master nitro tuner Dick LaHaie went to the
nostalgia drags last weekend at Bowling Green,
Kentucky for a little R&R away from the world
of NHRA Top Fuel racing and brought his slick
little '39 Mercury rag top along. We thought
you might like to see a couple shots of the
ride. Staffer Dale Wilson was at the event and
has filed a race report that we will put up
soon. (photos by Don Richerson)
