PRO MOD RULE CHANGE COMING?
The blown cars dominated the nitrous cars at
the just completed IHRA National event at Grand
Bend, Canada. The best nitrous cars were running
low 6.30s and the blower cars were in the teens.
As soon as the race was completed, the mojo
wire was buzzing with rumors that IHRA tech
director Mike Baker was going to handicap the
blower racers again. Just for the record, Baker
told DRO Magazine editor Jeff Burk that if he
does make a change it would be in the blower
overdrive and not adding weight or a rear gear
change.
On another Pro Mod rules related issue, we
hear that rumors are circulating that if IHRA
makes a change, NHRA wouldn't go along with
the rule and would possibly make their own rules
-- rules that would allow turbocharged and nitro-injected
engine combinations. DRO has talked to NHRA
officials directly about this matter and they
made it clear that as of right now they have
no plans to make their own rules for an EXHIBITION
CLASS! [6-3-2003]
A GREAT WEEKEND FOR THE SUMMIT
TEAM, JEGS TEAMS WARMING UP
Mail order moguls Summit Racing Equipment and
Jegs Performance both sponsor many racers and
both companies' racers had success at the drags
last weekend. Summit's IHRA representative Carl
Baker won the Pro Stock title and became the
second Pro Stock car in the 6.40s while doing
it. The Summit Pro Mod team of Jim Oddy and
Fred Hahn won their second NHRA AMS Staff Leasing
race in three events and took over the championship
points lead. Summit-backed driver Dan Fletcher
took home the Super Stock trophy at Chicago.
Jeg Coughlin went to his second final round
of the year and moved into fourth place in the
NHRA POWERade points program.
If these two companies can put as much into
the sport as they do, the least the Agent can
do is give them a little stroke once in a while.

Auto Parts Nitro Showdown. Teenage Top Fuel sensation
Josh Starcher will duke it out with Funny Car
racer Bob Gilbertson in a two round battle on
the historic eighth mile track.
Starcher will be driving the Colhart Motorsports
dragster while Gilbertson will be running the
Jungle Jim Tribute Car that was only run once
and was a big hit with fans who attended the
K&N Filters SuperNationals last month at Englishtown,
NJ.
There's no love lost between these two highly-competitive
drivers. Starcher said "Gilby has always had
a big mouth, just bring it on but he'd better
bring a lot."
Gilbertson retorted "I'll let my performance
do my talking. Be there to see me give that
kid a driving lesson." [6-3-2003]
