MILLICAN SEEKS RECORD WIN
Clay Millican, the 2001 and 2002 IHRA World
Top Fuel champion, will go after yet another
of "Big Daddy" Don Garlits' records this weekend
at the IHRA ACDelco Canadian Nationals at Toronto
Motorsports Park. Millican, the current IHRA
Top Fuel points leader, will be going for his
fifth victory of the season and his 25th career
win, which would put him in a first-place tie
on the IHRA career Top Fuel wins list alongside
Garlits, who got his 25th victory in 1979. [7-25-2003]
FOUR JOIN SEMA HALL OF FAME
The four newest members of the SEMA Hall of
Fame are Brian Appelgate, Bob McJannett, Marvin
Rifchin, and Robert Vandergriff, Sr.
Appelgate, president of B&M Racing and Performance
Products, was SEMA chairman from 1997 to 1999
and was named their Person of the Year in 1995.
He was a main force in the creation of SEMA's
Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council.
McJannett, another SEMA Person of the Year
(1990) and a three-term member of the Board
of Directors, is president of Performance Improvements,
one of Canada's largest

independent
retail store chains. He was also a director
of the Performance Warehouse Association for
several years.
Marvin Rifchin and his father, henry, began
H&M Tire Co. in the 1930s, first producing retreads
for use by midgets and stock cars. In the early
1950s the company began making new tires and
moved into manufacturing drag race tires. Among
their first drag racer converts was Don Garlits,
who earned top eliminator honors the first weekend
he ran on Rifchin's prototype new tires.
Robert Vandergriff, Sr., began his career in
car sales and then moved to advertising sales,
working for Petersen Publishing Co., NHRA, and
McMullen Publishing. He purchased Hedman Hedders
and later added Beeline Engineering (JR Headers)
and accessory firm Trans-Dapt. He served three
terms on the SEMA Board of Directors and was
their Person of the Year in 1989. [7-25-2003]
