Wondering Once More

ust Wondering...Does the average fan really care about the so-called "team orders" that the NHRA broadcasters keep harping on. I sit in the stands at a lot at national events and I can honestly say that I've never heard a fan bring it up until the announcer did.

Just Wondering... Why is it that recently the TV broadcasts and broadcasters seem to concentrate more and more on team tactics, team turmoil, and inside politics than the action on the track? Doesn't the average fan care more about the cars and the action on track than watching repeated re-runs of John Force yapping at Lee Beard? Or has the WWE "soap opera" influenced the sports entertainment presentation?

Just Wondering... When are the TV guys going to start interviewing prominent crew chiefs a little more and I don't mean Austin Coil or Dick LaHaie? Am I the only one who wants the hear from Gary Scelzi's crew chief Mike Neff or Fred Mandoline who tunes Tim Wilkerson's car or perhaps whoever is the guy is making all the horsepower for Greg Anderson.

Just Wondering... Why don't they change the index for the Super Comp cars from 8.90 to 6.90, qualify 32 cars instead of a all-run format and put a little exitement back in that class? The hate mail can start now!

Just Wondering... How come "Mad Dog" Bob Glidden was able to turn Larry Morgan's program around and evidently couldn't help Mark Pawuk's deal?

Just Wondering... Speaking of team orders, do you suppose that John Force might be under some from main sponsor FoMoCo to make sure a Mopar doesn't win a world championship in Fuel Funny Car?

Just Wondering... Where were all of these fans and journalists that are so distressed about team orders when this kind of thing was going down in the Larry Minor program or Warren Johnson or the Kalitta program so blatantly a few years back? World championships were on the line then, too.

Just Wondering... Will front-motored fuel cars and Fuel Altereds be the salvation of IHRA?

Just Wondering... I apologize in advance, but am I the only one who wants to pitch a brick through the TV screen when those insipid POWERade driving tip ads run during the ESPN broadcasts? They were cute the first 5 times or so but now that are just annoying and give the impression that the racer is just stupid.

Just Wondering... Has big-purse bracket racing become nothing more than a lottery for drag racers? I mean, doesn't the fact that you can buy a ticket. . .er, I mean an entry, lose, and then buy another to see if you can win sound like buying lottery tickets to you?

Just Wondering... Why is it that tracks have races with "Million" dollar purses, charge entry fees and run "sportsman" racers? Why not try this with the nitro classes? Why doesn't one of the sanctioning bodies have a race with nitro cars only, charge an entry fee and pay the winners of Top Fuel and Funny Car a couple hundred thou each with good money to qualify? I'd bet the fans would turn out and that sponsors and television wouldn't be a problem.

Just Wondering... What the hell is nostalgic about a front-motored Top Fueler with chassis built in 2003 using engines with billet heads, blocks and cranks, data loggers, 20 amp mags and $5000 superchargers? Answer: The ET's!
