DRAG RACING Online owes allegience to no sanctioning body and will call 'em like we see 'em. We strive for truth, integrity, irreverence, and the betterment of drag racing. We have no agenda other than providing the drag racing public with unbiased information and view points they can't get in any other drag racing publication.

Wondering In
The August Heat


ust Wondering. . .After watching Frankie Pedregon's nuclear explosion at Sonoma (just for one example) and the performances of the fuel cars on good tracks with great air, is there any doubt that the 90-percent nitro rule has outlived its effectiveness?

Just Wondering. . .Whatever happened to the art of track prep? Didn't sanctioning bodies and track owners used to take a lot of pride in their track surfaces and preparation?

Just Wondering. . .If the sanctioning bodies won't prep the tracks, why not legalize traction control? Surely they don't think races on one-lane tracks are entertaining to the fans, do they?

Just Wondering. . .Will another one-car Pro team ever win a NHRA Championship?

Just Wondering. . .Will Scotty Cannon ever decide to get out of a Fuel Coupe and return to his roots and the fame and fortune of Pro Modified?

Just Wondering. . .Why doesn't Ford Motor Co. spend a few bucks in Pro Stock instead of allowing arch rivals Chrysler and GM dominate that professional class? Why give the Force camp all of their dough? Does the fact that Force has Mustang bodies on his fuel coupes actually increase the number of Mustangs FoMoCo sells?

Just Wondering. . .Why didn't IHRA add an eight-car Fuel Coupe field to the IHRA World Nationals at Norwalk Raceway Park instead of increasing the Top Fuel field to 16. Could it have has anything to do with the once-a-year$1,000,000 gate at Norwalk's "Nite Under Fire" when the track books John Force and his entourage in could it. Maybe they didn't want to their fans overexposed to Nitro Funny cars?

Just Wondering. . .Am I the only one who losses his appetite after forking over $23 for two beers, a sandwich, and a deep fried turkey leg at a national event concession stand?

Just Wondering. . .What the hell is in "non dairy" creamer?

Just Wondering. . .When has anything in drag racing -- or for that matter any racing -- had anything to do with "being fair"?

Just Wondering. . .Does any fan actually spend a couple of hundred bucks on tickets to an NHRA or IHRA event for the fireworks at the end? Am I the only one that thinks fireworks are overrated and that money could be better spent elsewhere?

Just Wondering. . .Would Pro Stock racing be more entertaining if they just gave the fans a win/lose light, the speed and instant replay? I'd bet all the Super classes would be more interesting to watch if they did that. How many "fans" actually care about who broke out and by how much? Yawn.

Just Wondering. . .Can someone please explain to me who benefits from NHRA and IHRA having basically the same .90 classes with just slightly different rules? Can't we give the racer a break here?

Just Wondering. . .If drag racing could get consistent rules, wouldn't it be easier to sell the sport to the mainstream press who are used to sports like football, baseball, basketball (and even oval track auto racing) where the rules are uniform despite the level of competition? Almost every sports reporter knows the basic rules of those games. In drag racing there are so many different sanctioning bodies with different rules that most newsroom reporters don't have a clue. Maybe if drag racing tried selling the steak instead of the sizzle we could get more interest from the mainstream press and Corporate America.

Just Wondering. . .Can someone please explain to me why NHRA apparently gets concerned when racers and teams in classes other than NHRA's big four Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock bike try to promote the POWERade brand? They apparently don't even want the name used in press releases or in other promotional efforts. Doesn't it benefit NHRA's major benefactor to have their brand mentioned in any context relating to NHRA/POWERade drag racing? Maybe I just don't understand their marketing agreement. Maybe the folks at NHRA think the only people the folks at the Coca-Cola Co. want drinking their product are the ones interested in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike?

Just Wondering. . .Will NHRA step up the program for the 50th annual U.S. Nationals next year like they did for the 25th Annual edition? That was the last year for 32 car Top Fuel fields at the Nats. Wouldn't it be nice if they did something along those lines for the 50th and really make it special again?
