Fade In:

EXT. JEFF GAYNOR’S GARAGE - DAY

Gaynor’s garage is a non-descript beige building in a quiet industrial park. Burk and Martin pull up, park and get out of the car. The door to the shop is open a crack and the excruciatingly loud sound of Blue Cheer’s “Summertime Blues” is coming out of the building. Burk gingerly pushes open the door and the noise becomes almost unbearable, but the two venture in.

INT. JEFF GAYNOR’S GARAGE - DAY

Inside the grimy, chaotic garage are a motley crew of hack racers and sleazy hangers-on. Jeff Utterback, Zak Hawthorne and Dale Pulde are covered in grease and struggling with the clutch; Pammy Utterback, Valerie Harrell and Darr Hawthorne are off to the side, lazily gossiping while Jeff Gaynor is pacing and screaming into his cell phone.

GAYNOR
I told you to bring it by today!
(insert torrent of expletives here)
Yeah, well, I better see it by five.

He sees Burk and Martin and quickly clicks his phone shut.

GAYNOR
Who are you? What do you want?

Burk and Martin calmly take out their badges and flash them.

BURK
I’m Chief Burk and
this is Detective Martin.
We’re looking for a Jeff Gaynor.

GAYNOR
That’s me. What is this about?

MARTIN
We just wanted to ask you
a couple of questions. Would it be
possible to turn down that music?

Gaynor walks over and shuts off the stereo.

GAYNOR
So, ask.
