Another highlight
of the day was a brand new event this year--running
the Secaucus River Rapids in a Corvette. This challenged
the entrant's ability to make his 'Vette as watertight
and as seaworthy as possible. Everyone was disappointed
when only one team--Morgan and Thelma Turnbuckle entered
the event. The Turnbuckles were right proud, wrapped
up in their dripping blankets, as they watched their
names being typed out on the pressure sensitive label
which was affixed to the beautiful 6-inch copper plastic
trophy at the awards ceremony. Phil and Doreen Crenshaw
took up a collection for the Turnbuckles so they could
make bus fare back to Aspen. And we all thank Humphrey
and "Cuddles" Malone who presented a color
Polaroid picture to the Turnbuckles so they would have
something to remember their mint 1970 LT-1 by.
Our thanks also to Ralph C. Craig and Bea Philbin
who ran the hot dog and soda concession for the event.
The day's festivities came to a close when everyone
was arrested, and all the cars confiscated, for trespassing
in a restricted area. Our thanks to Harry and Etta
Greenbaum, the bailbondsman who posted bail for almost
everyone.
Ed Note: Our thanks to Chris and Selma Knought who
handled the photo chores for the event. Unfortunately,
in the excitement of the festivities Chris lost most
of the film. So to fill space, we've included some
shots of a local Pontiac event. After all, gang, when
you've seen one Tour, Show 'N Shine And Frolic, haven't
you seen them all? |
