Like I said years ago this not
a difficult program to put together. If you buy the product
you get a receipt. The racecar has to have the decals on
it at the time of qualifying for contingency payment (FINAL
ROUND) or if there is qualifying contingency awards the
decals are required then as well. You don’t need “Decal
Police” to tell racers they aren’t getting the
thousands of dollars they deserve because they threw on
a few decals before the finals. I wonder what a company
thinks about having a customer who bought their parts, displayed
their decal and won the event and earned their contingency
awards being stripped of those winnings because they put
some unrelated decal on their car?
IHRA should be ashamed for making rules like
this. Is it just another rule everyone needs to follow?
I guess if you ask the racer who had $7000 taken back from
him after San Antonio he has to agree. In my wildest imagination
I would never have thought an organization founded to offer
racers a safer and better place to race would set rules
like this that take things away from racers that they have
earned.
I really wanted to cover something different
this month but there was no way I could let this go. It
breaks down pretty simple really.
Just set a rule that says if you run a decal
that you don’t have product to support, or if you
have a product that pays but do not have the decals, you
don’t get the contingency money. If you slap on the
decals just before the finals, for whatever reason, and
you have the product to support the decals YOU SHOULD GET
PAID. The other rounds are worthless to even have decals
on the car, nobody that purchases race products is watching
anyway. Why make something so simple a reason to take away
hard earned money?

Well,
I think I am going to go out in the garage and make sure
I have the decals on the car from the companies that have
supported our DRO Project Cars. Who even thought up a rule
to strip winners of ALL THEIR CONTINGENCY DOLLARS for putting
one decal on after the race has started? It just had to
be someone who have never spent the time preparing cars,
paying the bills and hoping sometime to get to a final round
where they might get some contingency dollars.
It is obvious the prize money at Regional
Point races and even National Events is weak. The only thing
you are racing for is Contingency Money….now they
have a rule that can take it away from you…..that
is not true concern for the racers, it is just a different
form of micro-managing from people who need to feel important
I guess. That is how I see it and of course is just my personal
opinion………….PERIOD!
Good luck at the races in 2005.
