Some of the racers who responded did not want
me to mention their names because they NEED the contingency
awards to continue racing at the level they compete at.
That part I understand but taking the winnings away was
the lowest thing I can remember hearing of at a drag race.
Even if there is a rule there should be a warning or a fine
first, then if you do it again….bang – it can
cost you.

Wouldn’t
the simplest cure be to inspect the cars at tech, have the
racer sign up for contingencies and unless the racer goes
to tech to correct it… Those are the decals that will
be recognized, any other decals are just free advertising
…period. Why take their money for 20 legitimate decals
when they might have made a quick decision on some bad advice
just before the finals? C’mon guys, no need to institute
penalties that can cost a sportsman racer $7000. Maybe you
should check the wiring and ignition systems that closely…hmmmmm.
I see by my calendar that June is full of
big bucks bracket races across the country. I wish my new
job allowed me to travel to some of them, but it just isn’t
happening anymore. I miss meeting new racers and talking
to guys I have met over the years, but things change and
for myself it will be rare to get much traveling in. I appreciate
the emails I get from you guys out there that keep me posted
on “what’s happening”.
I know I was a lot calmer and less controversial
this month but there is a good reason… my youngest
son, Ryan and his terrific wife just gave Barb and I a BRAND
NEW CREW MEMBER…..Trevor Alex Nicholson was born Sunday
evening in Coos Bay, OR, where Ryan is stationed with the
U.S. Coast Guard. Another Nicholson “BOY”, that’s
four grandsons and not a hint of a granddaughter yet…..I
guess they will have to reset the delay box and give it
another try!!
Good luck and I hope your racing and travels
are safe!!
